Short Ram Air Intake for Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0L / 2.4L (2008–2014) - Improved Response & Airflow Enhancement

This short ram air intake system is designed to replace the factory air box on 2008–2014 Mitsubishi Lancer models equipped with 2.0L or 2.4L naturally aspirated engines and automatic transmissions. The system reduces intake restriction by using mandrel-bent aluminum piping and a dry high-flow air filter that requires no oil. This results in improved throttle response, enhanced airflow efficiency, and measurable gains in horsepower and torque across the RPM range.

The intake uses a shorter, more direct air path compared to the factory intake system, positioning the filter closer to the engine. The mandrel-bent construction maintains consistent internal diameter throughout each bend, creating a smooth airflow path to the intake manifold. The dry filter design eliminates the risk of over-oiling and oil contamination in the intake tract.

Vehicle Fitment

  • 2008–2014 Mitsubishi Lancer (2.0L Naturally Aspirated Engine, Automatic Transmission)
  • 2008–2014 Mitsubishi Lancer (2.4L Naturally Aspirated Engine, Automatic Transmission)
  • Not compatible with manual transmissions
  • Not compatible with turbocharged engines

Performance & Design

Airflow Optimization: The system is engineered to improve airflow efficiency by eliminating restrictive elements in the factory air box assembly. The short ram design with mandrel-bent aluminum piping reduces restriction and allows the engine to draw air more directly. The system has been dyno tested to verify performance gains. Actual performance improvements will vary based on vehicle condition, elevation, ambient temperature, and existing modifications.

Throttle Response: The reduced intake restriction and shortened air path allow the engine to breathe more efficiently during acceleration. This results in improved throttle response and power delivery throughout the RPM range. The improved combustion efficiency may contribute to fuel economy gains during steady-state driving conditions.

Construction & Materials

Mandrel-Bent Aluminum Construction: The intake pipe is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum, which provides corrosion resistance and reduces weight compared to factory plastic components. The mandrel-bent tubing maintains consistent internal diameter throughout each bend, reducing turbulence and maintaining airflow velocity.

Dry Filter Design: The high-flow air filter uses dry filter media that requires no oil for operation. This eliminates the risk of over-oiling and prevents oil contamination in the intake tract that can affect mass airflow sensor readings. The filter is reusable and washable, requiring only cleaning with appropriate filter cleaning solution and water.

What's Included

  • Mandrel-bent aluminum intake pipe
  • Dry high-flow air filter
  • Mounting hardware and clamps
  • Installation components

Installation

  • Direct replacement for factory air box system
  • Direct bolt-on design
  • No cutting or drilling required
  • Installation time approximately 45–60 minutes
  • Basic hand tools required (screwdrivers, socket wrenches)

Installation Note:
After installation, disconnect the negative battery terminal for approximately 30 seconds to allow the engine control unit to reset. This allows the ECU to recalibrate fuel delivery and ignition timing parameters to optimize performance with the modified airflow characteristics. Always disconnect the battery before performing any engine bay work. The ECU will continue to adapt during normal driving operation.

Filter Maintenance

Inspection Schedule: Inspect the air filter every 5,000 miles and clean if necessary. Driving conditions such as dusty environments, heavy traffic, or spirited driving may require more frequent inspection and cleaning.

Cleaning Procedure (Dry Filter): Remove the filter from the intake tube. Gently tap the filter to remove loose debris. Apply an appropriate dry filter cleaning solution to both the inside and outside of the filter element, working it into the filter media. Allow the cleaner to soak for approximately 10 minutes. Rinse the filter thoroughly with low-pressure water from the clean side out, continuing until water runs clear. Shake off excess water and allow the filter to air dry completely in a clean environment. Once fully dry, the filter is ready to reinstall. Do not apply oil to this filter - it is designed to operate dry.

Compatibility Requirements

Transmission Verification: This short ram air intake system is designed specifically for 2008–2014 Mitsubishi Lancer models with 2.0L or 2.4L naturally aspirated engines equipped with automatic transmissions. The system is not compatible with manual transmissions or turbocharged engine variants. Verify your vehicle's engine size and transmission type before purchase to ensure proper fitment.

This short ram air intake system provides improved airflow characteristics for 2.0L and 2.4L naturally aspirated Lancer engines through a shortened, direct intake path with mandrel-bent aluminum construction. The dry filter design eliminates oil maintenance requirements and prevents intake tract contamination. The system has been dyno tested and designed in the United States for performance verification. The system is designed to work with factory engine management components without requiring additional modifications or tuning.
