Boost your Dakota's 4.7L V8 performance with this high-flow intake—engineered for up to 10% more power, quicker throttle response, and an aggressive V8 soundtrack.
Built Tough, Breathes Better
The second-generation Dakota was Dodge's mid-size workhorse—a capable truck that could handle job sites during the week and adventures on the weekend. Powered by the reliable 4.7L PowerTech V8, these trucks had plenty of potential, but the factory airbox was designed for quiet operation rather than maximum airflow. This high-flow intake system changes that by replacing the restrictive factory setup with a streamlined path that lets your V8 pull in the air it's craving.
The payoff is immediate: up to 10% gains in horsepower and torque, sharper throttle response, and a deeper intake note that reminds you there's a V8 under the hood. Whether you're hauling supplies, towing a boat, or just passing slower traffic with confidence, this intake gives your Dakota the extra punch it's been holding back.
Performance That Makes a Difference
- Power Boost: Up to 10% increase in horsepower and torque throughout the RPM range
- Quicker Response: Eliminates intake restriction for immediate power delivery when you step on the gas
- Better Airflow: High-volume intake tract feeds your V8 the air it needs under heavy loads
- Aggressive Sound: Deep, resonant intake roar during acceleration that settles at highway speeds
- Reusable Filter: Washable performance filter saves money over time—just clean and re-oil as needed
- Bolt-On Installation: Direct fit using factory mounting points with basic hand tools
Straightforward Installation
Installation Guide - This system replaces your factory airbox and mounts using existing attachment points. Most installations take 60-90 minutes with common hand tools. Before you start, disconnect the battery's negative terminal to let the ECU reset and adapt to the improved airflow. Always work on a cool engine for safety.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly, basic hand tools needed.
Tools You Will Need
- Flathead Screwdriver (or 8mm nut driver) for hose clamps.
- 10mm Socket with Ratchet and Extension (essential for resonator bolts and battery).
- 13mm Socket (for removing factory air box mounting bolts on some models).
- Pliers (for the crankcase breather hose clamp).
- Sensor Safe Lubricant or a dab of clean motor oil.
On the 4.7L PowerTech V8, the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is the most critical component you will touch. It is located in the factory intake tube/resonator. These plastic sensors become extremely brittle over 20+ years of heat cycles. Do not yank it out. Twist it gently to break the seal before pulling. If the O-ring looks flattened or cracked, replace it immediately, or you will trigger a vacuum leak and a Check Engine Light (CEL).
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Air Box & Resonator
- Disconnect the Battery: Safety first. Use a 10mm socket or wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal. This resets the ECU so it can relearn the airflow for your 2000, 2001, or 2002 Dodge Dakota 4.7L.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the electrical harness connected to the air intake tube. Press the tab and gently pull the plug (pull the plug, not the wires).
- Remove the Breather Hose: Use pliers to slide the clamp back on the crankcase breather hose connected to the air box and pull the hose free. Note: This rubber hose is often dry-rotted; handle with care.
- Unbolt the Resonator "Hat": The 4.7L has a large plastic resonator box sitting on top of the engine. Use your 10mm socket to remove the two mounting bolts securing it to the engine bracket.
- Loosen Clamps & Remove: Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body. Pull the entire resonator assembly and factory air box out of the engine bay.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit for Dodge Dakota (2000-2002) with 4.7L V8
- Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe the throttle body opening with a clean rag to remove any oil residue. Install the supplied silicone coupler onto the throttle body and tighten the clamp using a flathead screwdriver.
- Transfer the Sensor: Locate the grommet hole on the new aluminum intake pipe. Insert the supplied rubber grommet. Carefully remove the IAT sensor from your old intake, apply a tiny amount of lubricant to the O-ring, and push it firmly into the new grommet until seated.
- Install the Intake Pipe: Slide the new intake pipe into the silicone coupler on the throttle body. Do not fully tighten the clamps yet; leave them snug so you can adjust the angle.
- Connect the Breather Hose: Install the supplied breather hose from the engine crankcase port to the nipple on the new intake pipe. secure it with the provided clamps.
- Install the Filter & Heat Shield: if your kit includes a heat shield, mount it using the factory airbox mounting points (usually 10mm or 13mm bolts). Install the high-flow conical filter onto the end of the pipe and tighten the clamp.
- Final Lockdown: Align the pipe so it does not rub against any metal lines or the AC compressor. Tighten all hose clamps firmly. Reconnect the IAT sensor harness.
- The Relearn Procedure: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the ECU to calibrate for the increased airflow of the 4.7L engine.
